STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election. State Representative Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) was appointed to serve on three committees: • Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development • Environmental Affairs • Government and Regulatory Reform “Before any piece of legislation can be voted on or passed into law, it must first be vetted through the committee process,” said Rep. Miller. “This is an important task, and I am humbled by the opportunity to serve on these committees and work with my colleagues to craft legislation that helps make Indiana the best place to live, work and raise a family.” Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor. “I firmly believe that committees are the workhorses of the institution. I look forward to being a part of a new generation of leaders as they shepherd important bills through our legislative process,” said Speaker Bosma. The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
