Start Date: 9/22/2011 All Day
End Date: 9/22/2011

STATEHOUSE— State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) is strongly encouraging college students and graduates interested in gaining professional experience and learning more about the legislative process to apply for this year’s internship program with the Indiana House of Representatives.

“The House internship program offers an unparalleled opportunity for students wanting to gain professional experience,” said Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute). “The interns work on key projects daily, and they play a pivotal role in assisting the legislators and staff during the legislative session.”

The Indiana House will be accepting applications for the internship program until October 31. Applications are currently being accepted online at http://www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/intern.html.

College sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. All academic majors are accepted. The internship starts January 2012 and ends in March. It is a full-time internship, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Statehouse, located in Indianapolis.

Interns will be compensated with a $700 bi-weekly stipend and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship. The scholarship is for educational expenses, which can be applied toward current or future undergraduate/graduate expenses.

Individuals interested in the internship program have four different areas to consider when applying: member services, media, computer/technology and policy/fiscal. For a detailed description of each area and additional information on the internship program, please visit the website listed above.

Interviews will be conducted as applications are received. Applicants are encouraged to work with their school in order to obtain academic credit for the internship. Most colleges and universities in Indiana offer class credit.

“Overall, this is a great opportunity for students to build their resumes and portfolios while gaining firsthand experience with the Indiana Legislature,” said Rep. Heaton. “The internship program provides students with opportunities and skills that set them up for future success, and I encourage all qualified students to apply.”
