STATEHOUSE - A bill sponsored by Rep. Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) passed through the Indiana House Friday morning by a vote of 88-0. Senate Bill 248 addresses a variety of National Guard administrative procedures as well as establishing a First Sergeant Ribbon as an award for the Indiana Air National Guard.
"There are several items in this bill that help out our Indiana National Guard," said , "We also wanted to establish the First Sergeant Ribbon award," said Rep. Borders who chairs the House Veteran Affairs and Public Safety Committee.
The First Sergeant Ribbon is to be awarded in recognition of meritorious service by a member of the Indiana Air National Guard who has served in the first sergeant career field. An individual must be nominated by their commanding officer
The bill also allows the state armory board to collect court martial fees, removing the responsibility away from the county treasurer.
If signed by the Governor, it will be enacted into law on July 1st, 2011.
