STATEHOUSE - Representative Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) continues to strengthen legislation protecting Hoosier children. House Bill 1324, authored by Rep. Steuerwald, focuses on sentencing for child molesting and child solicitation.

"I am pleased to report that my bill successfully passed in the Senate," said Rep. Steuerwald. "We all want to make it safe for our children."

House Bill 1324 advises the legislative council to assign the topics of child molesting and child solicitation to an existing summer study committee, which will determine if the sentences for the offenses should be elevated under certain circumstances.

The Senate passed the bill with suggested amendments that would look at increasing sentencing for child solicitation. If soliciting can be preempted, it will be a preventative measure to stop child molesting.

"I hope we continue making progress with positive legislation," said Rep. Steuerwald. "We're working together with the Senate to move forward."
