STATEHOUSE – State Representative Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) recognized the 2012 Western High School Panthers baseball team at the Statehouse for winning their division state championship. This was the first baseball state championship won by Western High School. The Panthers are a part of the Class 3A IHSAA baseball division. Rep. VanNatter authored a resolution and presented it to the team on the House floor.

“I am proud to honor these young men here today and wish Western’s program continued success in the coming years,” said Rep. VanNatter.  “They are an exciting team to watch, and I’m sure they will bring many more state championships home in the future. I commend each of these students for their hard work on and off the field.”

The 2012 Panthers consisted of 18 young men and are coached by Ty Calloway. Western High School baseball has a long history of success with 17 Mid-Indiana Conference titles, 15 sectional titles and four regional titles. Western has also finished twice as semi-state finalists.

The Panthers beat the Brebeuf Jesuit Braves 8-1 to claim their state championship title.

This is an outstanding group of young men and coaches,” said Rep. VanNatter. “I congratulate them on their first state championship and wish them the best of luck in their future baseball careers.”
