Rep. VanNatter's Various Abortion Matters Bill Passes the House
STATEHOUSE- Rep. VanNatter's breast cancer screening and various abortion matters bill passed the House by a vote of 73 to 23. The bill will now go to the Senate for consideration.
HB 1210 ensures that funds from Indiana's check-up plan trust fund to be used to provide money for breast and cervical cancer checks. Additionally, the bill finds a compelling state interest in protecting the fetus due to studies that demonstrate that the fetus can feel pain. The bill sets various requirements that physicians must meet prior to performing an abortion, such as the woman being informed orally and in writing of information that includes the risks involved, information on the fetus, and being shown an ultrasound of the fetus. Moreover, the state department of health is required to provide materials for pregnant woman on their website.
"Each of us must do our part in protecting life," said Rep. VanNatter. "Today I stood up for the unborn who could not speak for themselves."
