STATEHOUSE –The 2013 House Republican Internship Program is now accepting applications. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students who would like to gain professional experience by working for the Legislature. “For current students or recent graduates interested in state government and the legislative process, this is the best internship program in the state,” said Rep. VanNatter (R-Kokomo). “The firsthand experience that the interns get will provide a better understanding of the functions of state government. It is also a rewarding, yet challenging, opportunity to prepare for future employment.” Applicants from all academic majors are encouraged to apply. Interns receive a $700 bi-weekly stipend and can apply for a competitive $3,000 Verizon Scholarship to be applied toward educational expenses for current or future undergraduate or graduate studies. The internship program runs in accordance to session which begins in January and ends in April. It is a full-time internship at the Statehouse, located in Indianapolis. Individuals interested in the internship program may consider four different concentrations when applying: member services, media, computer/technology and policy/fiscal. When applying, applicants are encouraged to work with their school in order to obtain academic credit – most colleges and universities in Indiana offer class credit. “This is a great program that helps interns grow personally and professionally,” said Rep. VanNatter. “Understanding how state government works will open doors to both private and public sector opportunities.” The Indiana House Republicans will accept applications for the internship program until Oct. 31.
