STATEHOUSE –House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1301, authored by State Representative Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo), was signed into law by Governor Mike Pence.

The current process for reviewing buildings for fire and safety laws is filled with delays that cost all parties involved time and money. HEA 1301 establishes a State Building Commissioner to speed up the review process and get the businesses under review functioning more effectively.

“After I, along with other House Republicans, received many complaints from around the state about projects being held up for months because the state was not reviewing plans in a timely manner, I authored this legislation to streamline the plan review process,” said Rep. VanNatter.

HEA 1301 requires the State Building Commissioner to issue a written interpretation of a building law or fire safety law no later than 10 business days after receiving a request.

“Not only will this law speed up the review process, but it will help businesses function more efficiently and allow them to help boost Indiana’s economy,” said Rep. VanNatter.
