STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) congratulates the Scott family from Carroll County and the Crum, Dorsey and Frey families from Clinton County for receiving the Hoosier Homestead Award. The awards were presented by Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and Agriculture Director Gina Sheets at the Indiana State Fair today.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes families with farms that have been owned by the same family for 100 years or more. Fifty-four Centennial awards were given for 100 years of ownership, 15 Sesquicentennial awards recognized 150 years and three Bicentennial awards for operating at least 200 years in the Hoosier state.

The Scott Farm, located in Bringhurst, Ind., began in 1905. The Crum, Dorsey and Frey Farms, located in Frankfort, Ind., have been in operation since 1912, 1902 and 1911, respectively. All four families received the Centennial award for over 100 years of ownership.
The program began in 1976 to acknowledge the contributions these families have made to Indiana agriculture. More than 5,000 farms have been recognized since the program was established.

“All four of these families have worked diligently to uphold a strong legacy of Hoosier agriculture right here in our district, and they deserve our recognition and sincere appreciation,” said Rep. VanNatter. “I am pleased that these hardworking families receive the credit that is due to them through the Hoosier Homestead Award Program. Each farm is an iconic piece of Hoosier history and represents tradition and longevity in agriculture.”

Two award ceremonies are held each year – one at the Statehouse in February and one at the State Fair in August.
