(STATEHOUSE) Mar. 3, 2009 - Rep. Jacque Clements (R-Frankfort) spoke at the Tipton County Republican Women meeting Monday night to discuss issues surrounding the 2009 legislative session. "I felt so fortunate to be invited to talk to such a wonderful group of ladies," said Rep. Clements. "We discussed what action was taking place in the House and I was able to answer questions some of the ladies had regarding some of the bills that had passed to the Senate." "Two of the bills I was able to discuss with the group were House Bill 1094 and 1639. House Bill 1094 eliminates the requirement for the county auditor to mail annual information statements to each person liable for property taxes." Rep. Clements offered an amendment to this bill that will eliminate an October mailing by the county auditor's office, which was scheduled to begin mailing in the fall of 2010. "The elimination of this October notice will save counties thousands of dollars. It is estimated that it costs an average of $0.70 per parcel to mail this notice in Howard Co. and therefore saves the county more than $30,000." The other topic of conversation was House Bill 1639, authored by Rep. Clements, which adds service utility vehicles to the current Move Over/Slow Down law. The bill requires drivers to proceed with caution when approaching emergency vehicles and have at least one flagger visible to let oncoming drivers know to proceed with caution. Finally, Rep. Clements was able to discuss her disappointment with House Bill 1001, the budget bill that passed out of the House by a 52-44 vote last week. "I explained how I cannot support the budget in its current form because I believe it will raise taxes for Hoosier families. I expressed sincere concern and hope that the Republican-controlled Senate will be able to make drastic changes to the budget in order for Indiana to run as it should." -30- Rep.
