STATEHOUSE- Rep. Jacque Clements (R-Frankfort) showcased her singing talents Tuesday night during Hoosier Idol, an event where community leaders gather to promote mental health awareness in Indiana. Hoosier Idol was introduced in 2006 as a fundraising event, hosted by Mental Health America in Indiana, to help advocate for the rights of those with mental and addictive disorders along with educating the general public about the need for changes in the service delivery system. The event brings together business and civic leaders, community members, mental health advocates, legislators and media personalities-all supporting the people in Indiana who have mental or addictive disorders. Indiana's senators and representatives provide the evening's entertainment and compete for the title of "Hoosier Idol." Rep. Clements was awarded this year's "Hoosier Idol" as she performed Patsy Cline's classic song "She's Got You." "I wanted to go out there, let loose and have fun, while also be a part of a great cause," said Rep. Clements. "We all came out to perform and show our peers we can all laugh at ourselves and have a good time doing it. "It's also important to remember that everyone, the performers and the audience, helped raise awareness and money for a wonderful cause." Rep. Scott Pelath (D-Michigan City) and his group named The Scott Pelath Band received runner-up in the event. The event was held in the Indiana Roof Ballroom. |
