STATEHOUSE (March 31, 2009) - Rep. Jacque Clements (R-Frankfort) participated in the Statehouse's annual Best Buddy Day to give light to the nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment. Students from the Best Buddy program served as House pages during session and helped the Statehouse tour office in the afternoon. "The Best Buddies organization is such a wonderful organization for all they do," said Rep. Clements. "They have grown from one original chapter to more than 1,400 middle school, high school and college campuses across the country and internationally. The organization is estimated to positively impact more than 35,000 individuals this year." The organization was founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver. Some areas of the country and many areas of the world still lack programs to help people with intellectual disabilities become a part of mainstream society. "I strongly encourage you to log on to http://www.bestbuddiesindiana.org/ to find ways you can get involved with the Best Buddies program in your community," said Rep. Clements. "They have so many different opportunities for you to help out, give back or lend a friendly hand." Contact Rep. Clements by e-mail at h38@in.gov, by calling toll-free 1-800-382-9841 or by writing her at the Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204.
