STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Jacque Clements (R-Frankfort) invites students to apply for the House Page Program. The Indiana House of Representatives' Page Program allows students from across the state to experience the lawmaking process firsthand. Through the program, Hoosier students get to participate in Statehouse activity as a legislative page for a day. "The Statehouse page program is an exceptional opportunity for Hoosier students to experience government first hand," said Rep. Clements. "Paging is an experience that will enrich student's classroom education and future professional careers." Pages receive a tour of the Statehouse, including the governor's office, the chambers of the Indiana House, Senate and Supreme Court. Also, pages are given the opportunity to witness any floor sessions and committee hearings taking place during their visit. Finally, pages will spend time in the House chambers with Rep. Clements, assisting her throughout the day. Pages must be at least 13 years old, and will receive an excused absence from school for the day. Each page is responsible for transportation to and from the Statehouse. Those interested in serving as a page for Rep. Clements should send their name, age, address, phone number and school to state Rep. Jacque Clements at 200 W. Washington St., Statehouse Rm. 401-8, Indianapolis, IN 46204; e-mail information to H38@IN.GOV; or visit the State of Indiana House Republicans Web site. Availability is limited, so students are encouraged to send requests in quickly. The House page office will try to meet requests for specific dates. |
