(STATEHOUSE) Jan. 22, 2008 - State Rep. Jim Buck (R-Kokomo) today offered an amendment that would cap farmers' property tax payments at 2 percent of their assessed value. The amendment was to Gov. Mitch Daniels' property tax plan. An amendment with the same language was adopted

"One risk of being a farmer includes the uncertainty of what the profit gain will be for the year," said Rep. Buck. "The cap will provide farmers with some certainty on how much they will owe on their tax bills."

House Bill 1001 will be eligible for full passage by the House of Representatives on Thursday. If the bill passes the House, it will then move to the Senate for consideration.
