Rep. Davis: Local Projects to Receive Energy Grants STATEHOUSE- State Rep. Bill Davis (R-Portland) congratulates two local entities on receiving grants to fund two energy efficient projects. The Jay Community Center received a $14,003 grant to retrofit lighting which will save approximately $3,600 per year and to replace five old heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) units running at 55-75% efficiency with new HVAC units that will run at 93-95% efficiency. The HVAC update will save approximately $2,900 per year. Jay-Randolph Developmental Services received a $20,969.20 grant to replace hanging heaters at both the Jay County and Randolph County facilities. This will save approximately $4,000. The project will also fund retrofitting 152 lights at the Randolph County facility. Both organizations were required to come up with a 50% match for their grants. The purpose of the Indiana Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) Program is to assist eligible entities in creating and implementing strategies to reduce fossil fuel emissions in a manner that will reduce the total energy use of the eligible entities, increase energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and reduce energy costs through efficiency improvements. "I want to congratulate these two not-for-profits for securing these grants. These projects will help these important community institutions operate more efficiently with their dollars," said Rep. Davis. EECBG programs are funded through the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE) and administered in Indiana by the Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED). |
