(STATEHOUSE) March 31, 2009 - Rep. Bill Davis (R-Portland) honored Adam Chalfant today for bringing home Winchester High School's first state championship title. The undefeated Winchester senior was declared the 2009 heavyweight-wrestling champion in February.

"Five seconds into the title match, Adam slammed his opponent to the mat and went on to win the title in a 7-2 decision," said Rep. Davis. "Adam is not only Winchester High School's first state wrestling champion, but he is the first state wrestling champion from East Central Indiana in 13 years."

Chalfant was in the 285-pound weight class when he competed in the 71st Annual Indiana High School Athletic Association Individual Wrestling State Finals at Conseco Fieldhouse. Chalfant's high school career record in wrestling was 146-19, and his senior year ended with a perfect 39-0 record.

Chalfant's mother, Lee Anne, and father, Ron, joined Rep. Davis, along with the Winchester High School Principal Tom Osborn, Superintendent Dr. Gregory Hinshaw and Athletic Director Steve Howell, in honoring Chalfant.

"Adam has shown tremendous leadership in wrestling, football and track and field; he truly was a three-star athlete," said Osborn. "We are all so proud of him for his many accomplishments and for the person that he has become."

Rep. Davis always encourages his constituents to contact him with questions or concerns through e-mail at h33@in.gov; by calling the Statehouse at 1-800-382-9841; or writing to 200 W. Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
