STATEHOUSE-State Rep. Bill Davis (R-Portland) was assigned to three interim study committees. Rep. Davis was appointed to the Public Highway Private Enterprise Review Board, the Joint Study Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Assessment and Solutions, and the Charity Gaming Study Committee.

"As a part-time legislature we have a limited amount of time to address a wide range of topics during session," said Rep. Davis. "The interim is the ideal time for us to get a head start on discussing issues that need further attention from last session, or to address new issues that have been brought to our attention."

The following information includes a brief description of each interim study committee Rep. Davis will be serving on:

Public Highway Private Enterprise Review Board

·         Review statutes, rules and practices to determine if legislation is desirable to restrict or prohibit governmental competition with private enterprise in the area of construction, maintenance or repair of public highways

·         Conduct public hearings and issue advisory opinions if a complaint is filed against a state or local highway department

Joint Study Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Assessment and Solutions

·          Assess the condition of Indiana's transportation infrastructure in both the public and private sectors

·         Project Indiana's transportation demands through 2035

·          Determine whether Indiana's existing transportation infrastructure is capable of meeting the transportation demands

·          Establish appropriate roles and responsibilities for the state, county and municipal governments and the private sector in meeting Indiana's projected transportation demands

·          Identify potential funding sources for both public and private transportation and infrastructure projects

·          Report its findings to the governor and the General Assembly

 

Charity Gaming Study Committee

·         Address the requirements needed for obtaining a charity gaming license

·         Discuss whether qualified organizations should be permitted to use charity gaming proceeds to pay the salaries and benefits of the qualified organization's employees

·         Discuss the reporting requirements for conducting charity gaming events

·         Address whether qualified organizations should be permitted to conduct charity gaming events more frequently

·         Address the hours in which charity gaming events may be conducted

·         Discuss issues related to licensing and regulating national organizations and their affiliates

"Finding solutions to problems and bettering our communities is the goal of the interim study committees, and I look forward to the positive impact they will have on Indiana," said Rep. Davis.
