Rep. Davis applauds approval of funding for Ball State, Ivy Tech renovation projects STATEHOUSE - It was announced by the General Assembly Budget Committee that requests by Ball State University and Ivy Tech Community College in Muncie to fund renovation projects were approved. Ball State University will receive $7.5 million and Ivy Tech Community College's Muncie campus will receive $4.8 million. "I am pleased that we can help provide these renovations at our local state universities," said State Rep. Bill Davis (R-Portland). "Ivy Tech and Ball State are both outstanding academic institutions in Indiana and to provide the best resources possible will greatly benefit their students, faculty and staff. Ball State University requested funds to finish renovations on the Teachers College and Utilities Upgrade project. The majority of the mechanical, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure and systems of the Teachers College are original to the building. The renovations to the building will include installation of a fire sprinkler system, replacement of the vertical electric bus system, replacement of all main air handling units, and evaluation of all other systems. Ivy Tech Community College requested funding to continue renovations of the Fisher Building in Muncie. The renovations will help ease some of the need for space at the Muncie campus. The College's Foundation received the building as a gift in 2009 for the more than 135,000 square feet. The funds received will help build out two additional floors in the Fisher Building located in downtown Muncie. The renovations will provide additional classrooms, teaching labs, faculty offices, meeting rooms, student gathering spaces, and support spaces. "Our state universities our one of our greatest assets and we want to ensure that they have the tools they need to continue to provide excellent educations. More space at Ivy Tech will help them provide increased services to the rising number of students enrolling at the College. The updated utilities project at Ball State will improve the Teachers College building conditions for the students and faculty that frequent the building," said Rep. Davis. "The renovations at the universities will provide jobs in the community and will strengthen both campuses. I am very pleased that their projects were approved." -30-
