STATEHOUSE- House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election. State Representative Greg Beumer (R-Modoc) has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the Environmental Affairs Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and the Financial Institutions Committee. “As leaders, it is important that we not only bring our prior experiences and expertise to the table but also a willingness to expand our knowledge,” said Rep. Beumer. “I look forward to serving our community on each of these committees and learning as much as I can about legislative matters that impact Hoosiers statewide.” Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor. “I firmly believe that committees are the workhorses of the institution. I look forward to being a part of a new generation of leaders as they shepherd important bills through our legislative process,” said Speaker Bosma. The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
