STATEHOUSE - "During these tough economic times, Indiana has maintained a responsible budget and kept a rainy day fund. Across the country other states are dealing with massive deficits and find themselves cutting education and other services. In Indiana we have refused to do that, and today we see Indiana is once again leading the country in economic recovery and education funding. This morning's announcement by Governor Daniels, Speaker Bosma, and Senate President Long is proof of that. "As a member of the House Ways and Means committee I worked with other Republicans to make sure we did not cut education funding in our proposed budget, and now we find ourselves in a position to increase that funding by $150 million. Indiana will not be spending money to pay debts or funding services that have been cut, but rather to increase resources and funding our students, our children and grandchildren." -30- |
