Western honored with “Excellence in Performance Grant” STATEHOUSE— State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R- Kokomo) congratulates Western School Corporation on becoming one of the first recipients of Indiana’s “Excellence in Performance Grant.” Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett honored 28 school corporations throughout the state during a press conference held at the Statehouse. The grant was created by the General Assembly during the 2011 legislative session and distributes six million dollars to winning school corporations around the state to recognize and reward their excellent teachers. “This is a real honor for Western to receive this performance grant,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “They have exceptional teachers who are working hard to make a difference in the lives of students at their school. It is always great to see teachers acknowledged for the hard work they do.” The 2011 budget established the Excellence in Performance Awards for Teachers grant program. It provided that the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) develop and manage the grant program and requires the State Budget Committee to review the allotment of funds made through the grant program. “It is great to see a local school making such positive advancements in education and assuring to know students are under the instruction of top-notch teachers,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “Throughout the future it is important that we continue to find ways to reward quality educators.” Western School Corporation was allocated $209,635. -30- |
