Today, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman presented James W. Miller with the Hoosier Homestead Award at a special ceremony at the State Fair. The Hoosier Homestead Award program recognizes families with farms that have been owned by the same family for 100 years or more. The farm has been owned by the Miller family since 1903 and was recognized for the lasting impact it has had in Howard County. The program was instituted in 1976 and distinguishes eligible family farms for the economic, cultural and social advancements of Indiana. "This family and their farm deserve recognition for the contributions they have made over the years to local and state agricultural as well as their positive involvement in the Howard County community," said Rep. Karickhoff. "Maintaining a farm for this amount of time shows a great deal of dedication and hard work."
Almost 4,500 farms have received the honor in the past 30 years. "I want to congratulate the Miller family on receiving the Hoosier Homestead award," said Rep. Karickhoff. "They should take great pride in their accomplishment. Hopefully this farm stays in the Miller family for years to come and continues having great success in Howard County."
