Please include the following statement from Representative Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) in your coverage of HB 1001.

STATEHOUSE - "As the saying goes 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going' and that is exactly what we did with HB 1001. Essentially the state can do two things when revenues are down; it can raise taxes or cut spending. With the current economic climate our country is in, raising taxes is not an option. Hoosier families are tightening their belts across the state, there is no reason government should be exempt from doing the same.

"We kept K-12 education funding at their current levels.  Most state agencies however, will need to make do with less funding than they received in fiscal year 2009. The sacrifices though are necessary and shared across all of government in order to protect taxpayers and keep money in the pockets of Hoosiers and help Indiana emerge from the recession faster and stronger than our neighboring states."
