STATEHOUSE— State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R- Kokomo) commended local Howard County business, Gary Rhum and the Rhum Academy of Music family, for receiving a 2012 Economic Development and Growth through Entrepreneurship (EDGE) award.

The EDGE awards are hosted by the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) and were presented Wednesday, April 11 by Lt. Governor Skillman at the Indiana Statehouse. These awards recognized nine emerging and nine established ISBDC client small businesses from across the state.

“It is great to see Rhum Academy honored with an EDGE award, it is a true accomplishment and one to be proud of,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “This shows we have great local businesses right here in District 30 that are working to make economic improvements for our community and state.”

The EDGE awards are presented to emerging or established businesses that have a positive and measurable impact on the formation, growth, and sustainability of small businesses in Indiana.

Rhum Academy of Music, located in Kokomo, was among the select group of small businesses throughout the state honored with this distinct award. According to Rhum Academy of Music their mission is to be the place where individual students are encouraged to express themselves freely while finding their artistic, emotional and spiritual connection to their music.

“The businesses that are being recognized truly are the best in the state, and it is great to know one of them is right here in Kokomo,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “Small businesses are important to our state and I want to congratulate Rhum Academy for all their hard work and making a difference in our community.”
