[r30] Rep. Karickhoff appointed to three summer committees (7/5/2011)

Every year after the legislative session is completed; the Legislative Council meets to assign topics to study during the interim. They also establish new interim committees that are needed to examine specific issues.

Rep. Karickhoff is assigned to the following committees:

The Sustainable Natural Resources Task Force is charged with studying the following:

• Collect programmatic and funding information concerning current natural resource protection programs in  Indiana
• Funding mechanisms for the programs
• Perform a needs assessment concerning the natural resource programs in Indiana, including current programs and associated costs

The Natural Resources Study Committee is charged with studying the following:

• Examine laws relating to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and recommend, when necessary, legislative changes designed to better serve the citizens of Indiana
• Advise and assist the IDNR in programming its activities and in developing a long-range plan for land acquisition, capital improvement and development of facilities
• Oversee the Indiana Water Resource Management Program

The Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations is charged with studying the following:

• Issues of joint state and local concerns

"It's an honor to be placed on these particular committees," said Rep. Karickhoff. "I am eager to begin working on developing solutions for issues that are affecting Hoosiers."

Most interim committees will begin meeting in July with their work concluding toward the end of October.

"Even though session has ended, it is important that we continue to discuss and study critical issues within our state," said Rep. Karickhoff. "I look forward to studying information on these topics and to developing solutions to address these issues."
