Rep. Karickhoff presents Ron Metz with the Sagamore Award
STATEHOUSE – Today in Kokomo, State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) presented Ron Metz, CPA the Sagamore of the Wabash Award for his leadership and dedication to our community and state. The Sagamore of the Wabash award is the highest honor the governor can bestow. It recognizes an individual for their humanity in living, loyalty in friendship, wisdom in council and inspiration in leadership. “It was an honor to present such a prominent award to this incredible individual,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “Ron Metz is a well-respected, hard-working member of our community and has done so much through his various roles to benefit families living here, like generating support for a new YMCA.” The campaign to fund a new YMCA in Kokomo was one of the largest tasks that had been taken on by anyone in the community. Metz worked with community, non-profit and business leaders to make sure the project had the necessary support to move forward. “Ron and his family have inspired countless Hoosiers, and despite going through a challenging time in their lives, they came together to make a positive impact in the community,” said Rep. Karickhoff. In 2007, Metz’s son was diagnosed with cancer. To raise awareness and support the Riley Children’s Hospital Cancer Center, the Metz family created the Eric Metz “Win This Battle!” Endowment Fund. Today, the Metz family continues to raise awareness and funds for teenagers receiving treatment at Riley Children’s Hospital. “Through their example, the Metz family is devoted to helping Hoosiers and is certainly deserving of Indiana’s highest recognition,” said Rep. State Rep. Mike Karickhoff serves as Budget Subcommittee Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and on the Natural Resources Committee. He is also the chair of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Rep. Karickhoff represents portions of Howard and Grant counties, most of the city of Kokomo and the towns of Swayzee and Greentown.
