Rep. Karickhoff congratulates Kokomo and Marion on receiving Blight Elimination Program awards
STATEHOUSE –State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) would like to congratulate Kokomo and Marion on receiving Blight Elimination Program awards. The communities have each received over $1 million to address blighted or abandoned homes. “I am pleased that our communities are among the chosen applicants to receive these awards,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “It is great to know that Indiana is able to assist our communities in dealing with the burden of abandoned and blighted homes.” The Blight Elimination Program awards applicants with funds through the Hardest Hit Fund to help prevent avoidable foreclosures, by eliminating blighted and abandoned homes within the chosen communities. Kokomo and Marion are two of the eight applicants to recently receive awards. “Blighted properties can become a serious issue for homeowners, neighborhoods and communities since some of them do not have the resources to fix these problems,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “These funds will ensure that Kokomo and Marion have additional resources to stabilize neighborhoods and reduce the foreclosures within our communities.” According to the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, approximately 4,000 blighted or abandoned homes will have been eliminated because of the Blight Elimination Program. -30-
State Rep. Mike Karickhoff serves as Budget Subcommittee Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and on the Natural Resources Committee. He is also the vice-chair of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Rep. Karickhoff represents portions of Howard and Grant counties, most of the city of Kokomo and the towns of Swayzee and Greentown.
