Fond family memories made at the State Fair

It’s almost that time of year again.  That time of year when you can visit the best 4-H exhibits from around the state, eat some delicious food, granted, a lot of it is deep fried and  on a stick, but you can also enjoy some quality time with family and friends all in one location at the Indiana State Fair.

As great as the exhibits, food, and entertainment look to be at the State Fair this year, the best opportunity the State Fair provides is the chance to celebrate a Hoosier tradition with family and friends.

The State Fair is special to me and my family because it brings back fond memories of my daughters participating in the annual cheerleading competition.

Whatever you may decide to do at this year’s State Fair, make sure to do it with those that are closest to you and take a second to slow down and cherish the moments.

This year’s State Fair is “The Year of Dairy Cow”.  Indiana plays an important role in the dairy industry, according to the Indiana Dairy Council.

The dairy industry employs 8,800 people in Indiana and generates $1.4 billion annually. There are over 1,500 dairy farms in Indiana, and even though the fair has its fair share of fried foods – Indiana is actually ranked second in the nation when it comes to the production of low fat ice cream.

Our State Fair began on Aug. 3rd and will run through the 19th.  General admission at the gate is $10, advanced tickets are $7, and children five and under are free.  There are also several discount ticket days and discount tickets can be purchased at several area retailers.

I’m looking forward to the multitude of events offered this year. I hope you can join me at our State Fair.
