100 trees donated to Kokomo Each member of the General Assembly is allotted 100 sapling trees annually from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for distribution to their local public service organizations to be planted on public property. The new trees in Kokomo will be planted in several city-owned parks, greens paces and natural areas. “As a past Kokomo Park Superintendent, I understand how much time and effort it takes to ensure that our city’s landscape is kept vibrant and thriving,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “John Martino is doing an excellent job as superintendent. Our parks look wonderful, and I’m glad to be able to contribute to the continued greening of Kokomo.” The new trees will also be used to provide buffer strips between park land and residential areas. Some saplings will be planted adjacent to natural areas in order to help create additional habitats for the many species of native Indiana wildlife that resides in the parks. “Trees are an important part of every community,” said John Martino, Kokomo Park Superintendent. “They not only create a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing setting, they also increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements into urban settings; not to mention their contribution to our environment by improving air quality, water conservation and soil preservation.” -30-
State Rep. Mike Karickhoff serves on the Ways and Means Committee and the Natural Resources Committee. He is also the chair of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Rep. Karickhoff represents portions of Howard and Grant counties, most of the city of Kokomo and the towns of Swayzee and Greentown.
