STATEHOUSE — State Representative Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) joined fellow legislators at the Statehouse on Nov. 18 for Organization Day, the first official meeting of the 119th General Assembly. All 100 members of the House, including eight newly elected Republicans, were sworn in by Chief Justice Loretta Rush. Rep. Thompson was reelected to represent House District 28, which includes portions of Hendricks and Boone counties.

“I am honored to serve the people of my district at the Statehouse,” said Rep. Thompson. “In 2013, House Republicans made the largest investment in public K-12 education in our state’s history. As a member of Ways and Means, I look forward to continue providing our schools with adequate funding while working to address discrepancies in the funding formula.”

In addition to being sworn in, House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) selects a charitable organization for the House to partner with every Organization Day. The entire House participates in supporting and raising awareness for this charity throughout the legislative session, which is the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) this year.

Founded in 1980, ICADV is a statewide coalition that provides technical assistance, resources, information and training to those who serve victims of domestic violence. Their goal is to eliminate domestic violence through the implementation of prevention programs and public awareness.

“I am proud to support ICADV in their fight to end domestic violence in our state,” said Rep. Thompson. “Unfortunately, this is a serious issue impacting many Hoosiers, and it is our responsibility as legislators to make sure that resources are made available to domestic violence programs and shelters across Indiana.”

Legislators, staff and state office holders, brought in gift cards, bedding, linens, kid’s art supplies and other items to donate to ICADV. Representatives from the organization were present to accept the donations and thank those who participated in the collection efforts.
