STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced committee assignments and leadership appointments for the Indiana House Republican Caucus. Committee chairmen and caucus leaders are selected biennially by the majority party after each election year. State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) has been appointed to serve as the Chairman of the K-12 Ways and Means Subcommittee. He will also serve on the Elections and Apportionment Committee as well as the Education Committee. “I am honored to Chair the K-12 Ways and Means Subcommittee,” said Rep. Thompson. “It is crucial that we continue to enact legislation that seeks to provide the best educational opportunities for all Hoosier children. As a former teacher, I understand the critical role that a good education plays in young people’s lives. “ Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor. “Our biggest priorities this session are jobs and education,” said Rep. Thompson. “The two have a very close relationship. Many employers are in need of well-educated and well-trained workers. It is important then that our schools prepare our young people with the adequate skills and tools necessary to compete for jobs in an increasingly globalized society.” -30- Rep.
