End Date: 3/17/2009

(STATEHOUSE) March 17, 2009 - Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) led the Indiana House of Representatives today in honoring fallen Indiana State Police Trooper Richard G. Brown.

Rep. Thompson was the House sponsor of a Senate concurrent resolution urging the Indiana Department of Transportation to name part of Interstate 74 for Trooper Brown.

Trooper Brown was a member of the Indiana State Police force for 12 years and four months, serving until his death on Sept. 27, 1967.  Trooper Brown was struck by a vehicle while investigating a truck accident on I-74 in Boone County.

"This honor is long overdue," Rep. Thompson said. "Trooper Brown gave his life serving the State of Indiana.

"He was a selfless public servant, and I am honored to add my name to this resolution before his family, friends and the House of Representatives."

The resolution originated in the Indiana Senate, and was authored by Sen. Phil Boots (R-Crawfordsville).

The goal is that a section of Highway 74 near mile marker 54 in Boone County be named in honor of Trooper Brown.
