STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) has been appointed by Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett to serve on the nine-member advisory board for Indiana's Principal Leadership Academy. The academy was established by the General Assembly in 1986 to provide professional development for Indiana public school principals. It offers 18 days of rigorous training over two years, operating under the core values that individuals learn from each other and learn best when actively engaged in the curriculum. "I am honored to serve on the advisory board for this important cause," said Rep. Thompson. "I've seen the positive effects of a great principal on students, teacher and other school staff. Principals who provide great leadership to their schools help build the foundation for the sense of community needed to foster the best learning environment for students." Rep. Thompson has taught high school physics, chemistry and math for almost 30 years. He will serve a four-year term on the advisory board. The advisory board works with the director to oversee the program provided by the IPLA. Members of the board collaborate to approve plans, make recommendations, select principals for admittance and compile records for proper accountability.
