Winners of the contest will be have lunch with Rep. Thompson and visit his office and the House chambers during the 2010 session. "I am thrilled to offer this opportunity to the future legislators and government leaders of my district," said Rep. Thompson. "I can't wait to read each submission and hear the ideas our students have for state government. Who knows? Maybe we can take one of the ideas in these essays and introduce it as a bill in the House of Representatives." The contest is open to high school seniors who live in or attend school in District 28. Students unsure about whether they live or attend school in the district can go to www.in.gov/apps/sos/legislator/search and enter their home or school zip code. Essays should be no longer than 800 words and should be double-spaced and in a 12-point font. The essays' authors will remain anonymous during the judging process. When sending in your essay, please include your name, address, and school. Essays must be sent to Rep. Thompson's email address, h28@in.gov, by midnight Dec. 16.
