STATEHOUSE — State Representative Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) encourages local students to apply for the Indiana House Page Program. The program offers students ages 13 to 18 the opportunity to visit the Statehouse and witness a full day of legislative activity. “The House Page Program is an ideal way for young people, who are interested in the political process, to get a behind-the-scenes look at the state legislature,” said Rep. Thompson. “I encourage all students to apply for this unique experience to get an up-close view and be part of the 2013 legislative session.” Pages will receive a great tour experience of the governor's office, the chambers of the Indiana House and Senate and the Indiana Supreme Court. They will also get the opportunity to observe floor sessions and committee meetings as well as take part and help members of our legislative staff. Students who serve as pages will be excused from school for the day. As a former high school teacher, Representative Thompson does expect pages to cooperate with their teachers in making up any missed work. Pages are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Statehouse. Spots fill up rapidly, so interested students are encouraged to schedule their visit as soon as possible. Students are asked to include two different dates when they can come to the Statehouse between the first week in January through April. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to serve. There are no pages on Fridays. To sign up, visit www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/off_cms/page or call 1-800-382-9841. -30- Rep.
