STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) announced the town of Tippecanoe in Marshall County qualifies for $125,000 to clean up the Emery F. Ferry site. The site has become contaminated by leaking underground storage tanks.
"I am extremely pleased the state's administration agreed to use federal money in Marshall County," said Rep. Friend. "Small rural areas have issues with underground storage tanks leaking out fluids.
"Using this grant is an excellent use of federal money. These problems will be addressed and solved. Most importantly, this project will put Hoosiers to work."
The grant is from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and will be appropriated throughout the state by the Indiana Finance Authority. The Indiana Brownfields Program will use $4 million from the ARRA and be used to clean up underground storage tanks.
