STATEHOUSE - Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) today joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism.
In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana. As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution. Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Adjutant General R. Martin Umbarger spoke before the assembly.
"I am pleased the house recognized the ultimate sacrifice of soldiers and families," said Rep. Friend. "I am happy to bestow this honor upon them today."
Rep. Friend represents parts of Elkhart, Miami, Fulton, Marshall, and Kosciusko counties. The names of soldiers from these Indiana counties were read to the House.
Elkhart County
Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Craig Boling, age 38. Craig gave his life on July 8, 2003, in Kuwait.
Army Staff Sgt. Mark A. Lawton, age 41. Mark gave his life on August 29, 2003, in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. Marvin L. Trost III, age 28. Marvin gave his life on December 5, 2004, in Iraq.
Army Spc. Jeffery W. Corban, age 30. Jeffery gave his life on October 15, 2005, in Iraq.
Marine Cpl. Aaron Seal, age 23. Aaron gave his life on October 1, 2006, in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. James P. Snyder, age 48. James gave his life on May 10, 2008.
Army Spc. David Wilkey Jr., age 22. David gave his life on June 18, 2007, in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. Travis K. Hunsberger, age 24. Travis gave his life on June 27, 2008.
Kosciusko County
Marine Lance Cpl. David Fribley, age 26. David gave his life on March 23, 2002, in Iraq.
Army National Guard Sgt. Brock A. Beery, age 30. Brock gave his life on March 23, 2006, in Iraq.
Miami County
Army Pvt. Robert L. McKinley, age 23. Robert gave his life on July 8, 2003, in Iraq.
Fulton County
Army National Guard Sgt. Maj. Jeffery A. McLochlin, age 45. Jeffery gave his life on July 5, 2006, in Afghanistan.
Army Sgt. Nicholas Patterson, age 24. Nick gave his life on September 10, 2007, in Iraq.
The resolution concluded with the ceremonial playing of taps.
