STATEHOUSE - Fulton, Kosciusko and Marshall counties are three of 13 counties for which federal assistance has been requested because of recent storm damage, according to Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy).
Gov. Mitch Daniels has asked for federal individual assistance for Hoosier counties suffering damage from the recent storms, tornados and flooding. The other counties on the list are Allen, Carroll, DeKalb, Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Noble, Pulaski, White and Whitley.
A federal disaster declaration would qualify residents in these counties for much-needed aid. The governor requested individual assistance programs, including the individual and household program, disaster housing, crisis counseling, disaster unemployment assistance and small business disaster loans.
"So much property was ruined in my community and surrounding areas due to the bad weather," said Rep. Friend. "Families have suffered from their losses, and I hope the federal government fulfills the governor's request, so these people can be helped."
Northeast Indiana was rocked with storms on March 8 that brought three tornados, heavy rainfall and substantial damage.
Gov. Daniels has indicated that he may request assistance for additional counties if further heavy damage is identified. |
