STATEHOUSE — State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) joined Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) at the Statehouse on Monday to present the town of Macy and the city of Peru with Community Development Block Grants.
“The Community Development Block Grants will help Macy and Peru build community facilities that will enhance the lives of their residents,” said Rep. Friend. “In addition, these new developments will help generate jobs and spur economic revitalization.”
The town of Macy received a $400,000 public facilities grant for a community center. The city of Peru received a $400,000 public facilities grant for a library.
Through OCRA, Indiana requests federal funds to help rural communities with a variety of projects such as sewer and water systems, community centers, health and safety programs and many others. These funds help communities improve their quality of life and ensure the health and safety of their citizens.
“I applaud our local leaders for acquiring these grants and taking the initiative to improve Macy and Peru,” said Rep. Friend. “I look forward to the positive impact these projects will have for families living in these communities.”
