$500,000 community development grant awarded to Miami County
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Bill Friend (R-Macy) attended the ceremony honoring 24 Hoosier communities receiving over $8M in community development grants yesterday. The award ceremony was held at the Statehouse where Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann presented awards to multiple communities across Indiana. Miami County received a $500,000 grant for the construction of wastewater infrastructure in the unincorporated community of Miami. The new infrastructure will address health concerns and improve water quality in the southern Miami County community. “I’m very pleased that Miami County received the $500,000 grant. This money will go a long way to benefit the local community and ensure that they have safe drinking water,” said Rep. Friend. “The grant program is important to the vitality and sustained growth of rural cities and towns, and it’s great to see the dollars be invested locally.” Funded with federal dollars from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, 21 communities received grants from the Community Focus Fund (CFF), while another three received funding from the Main Street Revitalization Program (MSRP). Both the CFF and MSRP aim to assist smaller Hoosier cities and towns with long-term community development initiatives. The MSRP focuses on refurbishing downtown areas of each awarded community, and the CFF covers a broader spectrum of community enhancement projects, including the one awarded to Miami County. The grants are administered through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) which will assist community leaders during the 18-month implementation process.
