Rep. Wesco's Bill to Allow Home-schooled Athletes to Participate Passes through the House
Rep. Timothy Wesco's (R-Osceola) bill to allow home-schooled athletes to participate in public school athletics passed through the House with a vote of 60 to 30 and will now move to the Senate for consideration.
"House Bill 1399 allows non-public school students, who are not already members of an interscholastic athletic organization that participate in high school athletics, to participate in IHSAA athletics. Furthermore, the students must meet the necessary academic requirements, undergo an academic assessment evaluation by the Department of Education, and adhere to existing transfer rules."
"Our state constitution requires our 'common schools' to be 'equally open to all.' HB1399 allows for just that."
