[r21] Rep. Wesco Offers Paging Opportunity (1/3/2011)

Monday, January 3, 2011

Start Date: 1/3/2011 All Day
End Date: 1/3/2011
STATEHOUSE- State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Mishawaka) is offering opportunities for area students who are interested in serving as single-day pages in the Indiana House of Representatives. By serving as a House page, students are given the opportunity to view and participate in the day-to-day activities of the General Assembly.

Rep. Wesco serves as a member of the Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee, the Public Policy Committee, and the Government and Regulatory Reform Committee. Selected students will spend most of the day in the House chamber assisting Rep. Wesco. The day's work involves responding to representatives' requests, delivering messages and running errands. Pages also receive a tour of the Statehouse, including the governor's office and the chambers of the Indiana House, Senate and Supreme Court.

"The page program is a great opportunity for students to see their state representatives in action," Rep. Wesco said. "Students can learn about the law-making process and see for themselves if this is something they want to pursue in the future."

Pages are eligible for the page program if they are 13 to 18 years old. The House Student Services Office will try to meet requests for specific dates. Students will be excused from school for the day. Students will also need to arrange for transportation to and from the Statehouse.

Availability is limited, so students should apply as soon as possible. Session begins on January 5, 2011 and ends on April 29, 2011. Those interested in serving as a page for the House can apply online at http://www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/page.html or by calling his office at 317-232-9648.

Rep. Wesco serves House District 21, which includes all of Saint Joseph County south of South Bend and Osceola, Nappanee, Jimtown, and the southern part of Elkhart in Elkhart County.
