[r21] Bauer Goes Back on Promises to End Session Early (3/4/2010)

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Start Date: 3/4/2010 All Day
End Date: 3/4/2010

STATEHOUSE- Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Jimtown) had plenty to say about the impromptu adjournment of Thursday night's session.

Speaker Bauer (D-South Bend) had set the goal of ending session on Thursday, March 4, only to turn around and set the end date back an entire week to March 10. The extra week will cost taxpayers approximately $125,000.

"This is yet another example of Bauer being irresponsible with taxpayer money," Rep. Walorski said. "We have had the solution to these disagreements for 48 hours. Issues could have been resolved tonight or even tomorrow."

Speaker Bauer expressed that there was a lack of collaboration and cooperation between the two parties, however Republicans strongly disagree.

"We have willingly given up on the lesser battles in order to win what's ultimately right for Hoosiers," Rep. Walorski said. "We've watched amendment after amendment fail, yet still support bills that we know will help the people of Indiana in some way."

The next session day is set for March 10 at 1:30 p.m.
