STATEHOUSE (March 24, 2009) - Rep. Tom Dermody (R-LaPorte) today joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism.
In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana. As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution. Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Adjutant General Martin Umbarger spoke before the assembly.
"Today was a reminder of the great sacrifices Hoosier soldiers have made," said. Rep. Dermody. "I want to thank these brave men and women for their commitment to the safety of our country."
Rep. Dermody represents parts of LaPorte, Pulaski and Jasper counties. The names of five soldiers from these Indiana counties were read to the House.
Army Sgt. David M. Heath, age 30. He gave his life on Aug. 16, 2004, in Iraq.
Army Cpl. Sascha Struble, age 20. She gave her life on April 10, 2005, in Afghanistan.
Army Pvt. 1st Class Brian J. Schoff, age 22. Brian gave his life on Jan. 28, 2006, in Iraq.
Army Sgt. Kraig Foyteck, age 26. Kraig gave his life on Oct. 30, 2006, in Iraq.
Army Spc. Jason J. Beadles, age 22. He gave his life on April 12, 2007, in Iraq.
The resolution concluded with the ceremonial playing of taps.
