STATEHOUSE-State Rep. Tom Dermody (R-LaPorte) was assigned to two interim study committees. Those committees include the Midwestern Higher Education Commission and the Northwest Indiana Advisory Board.
"Our duties as legislators are far from over once session ends," said Rep. Dermody. "Indiana's General Assembly is part-time, but we address many issues during the interim that will help improve and strengthen our communities and the state as a whole."
The following information includes a brief description of each interim study committee Rep. Dermody will be serving on.
Midwestern Higher Education Commission
· Serve as an Indiana representative on the multi-state commission of the Midwest Higher Education Compact
Northwest Indiana Advisory Board
· Monitor permit applications
· Disseminate information and material to the public
Make recommendations to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the environmental rulemaking boards and then assist any department regional offices that affect certain counties
"After everything that has happened in the agricultural mint industry, it is important to protect Indiana businesses and the Northwest Indiana Advisory Board will allow us to address runaway government and the harsh regulations being pressed on mint and all Hoosier farmers. I look forward to working this summer and fall to delve deeper into discussions that can benefit all Hoosiers," said Rep. Dermody.
