STATEHOUSE – House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced committee chairmen and leadership appointments for the Indiana House Republican Caucus on Wednesday. Committee chairmen and caucus leaders are selected biennially by the Speaker after each election year.
State Representative Tom Dermody (R-LaPorte) has been reappointed as the Chairman of the Public Policy Committee.
“I am honored to be reappointed as Chairman on the Public Policy Committee,” said Rep. Dermody. “For this committee in particular, it is already shaping up to be an exciting session. I anticipate that we will once again tackle some of Indiana’s most difficult issues, including gaming revenue and alcohol sales. These are topics that Hoosiers have very strong opinions on, and as the leader of this committee, my promise to them is that I will continue to lead objectively and make the decisions I believe are in the best interest of our state.”
The Public Policy Committee is a standing committee that works to address a variety of issues, such as gaming, alcohol, abortion and firearms. Members of the committee are responsible for reviewing the legislation assigned to the committee, listening to public testimony and amending proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
Rep. Dermody has also been appointed to the leadership role of Assistant Majority Whip. Previously, Rep. Dermody served as the Assistant Majority Floor Leader.
“Being a leader for our caucus is a responsibility I do not take lightly,” said Rep. Dermody. “I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as Assistant Majority Whip, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep everyone accountable to the Hoosiers we represent.”
