STATEHOUSE- House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.
State Representative Tom Dermody (R-LaPorte) has been reappointed Chairman of the Public Policy Committee. He has also been selected to serve as a member of the Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee and the Statutory Committee on Interstate and International Cooperation.
“Serving as Chairman of Public Policy is no small task, but it is one that I am humbled to be entrusted with,” said Rep. Dermody. “Committees are the key to developing responsible legislation, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to move Northwest Indiana and our state forward.”
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
“I am confident in the abilities of each of these leaders, and I know they are all eager to begin their work,” said Speaker Bosma.
The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30 pm.
