NOTE TO THE EDITOR – Please find attached a letter State Representative Tom Dermody (R-LaPorte) received announcing the hold on the closure of Camp Summit. Please include the following statement from Rep. Dermody in your coverage of the announcement.

STATEHOUSE — “I have been communicating with Governor Pence’s office and the Department of Corrections since the decision to close Camp Summit was first announced. I am pleased that they have decided to hold on the closure and evaluate their decision in order to do what is best for all involved parties. I appreciate that Governor Pence looks at more than just the dollars and cents and am confident that he has the best interest of Hoosiers in mind.

“Camp Summit is a one-of-a-kind facility that is of vital importance to our community. Their para-military style boot camp addresses the needs of the participants and provides an environment that fosters growth and change. Their fully accredited high school and GED programs help students get on track to being productive citizens when they re-enter their communities. It would be a shame to lose this valuable asset.”

Rep. Dermody represents portions of LaPorte and Starke counties.
