STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Tom Dermody (R-LaPorte) and State Sen. Jim Arnold (D-LaPorte) are hosting a community forum on June 22, in LaPorte to discuss concerns about gasoline prices and the oil markets with local residents.
The meeting will take place at the LaPorte County Government Complex, 813 Lincolnway on June 22 at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Scot Imus, Executive Director of the Indiana Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, and Maureen Hellmann Ferguson, Executive Director of the Indiana Petroleum Council, will attend the forum to take questions from the audience and address a wide variety of issues. In particular, the industry representatives will discuss the causes of price increases and the role played by market speculators, as well as the reason for price differentials between neighboring communities.
"The unpredictability of gas prices over the last six months has been a great burden on Hoosier families," said Rep. Dermody. "It's our hope that at this meeting we can gain explanations about why gas prices have varied so much and address the concerns of the public.
"I'm pleased that Scot Imus and Maureen Hellmann Ferguson have agreed to meet with our communities and share their expertise, and would like to thank Sen. Arnold for helping to organize this public meeting."
