Rep. Olthoff supports charity, sworn in on Organization Day
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) was sworn into office on Organization Day, which marks the first official meeting of the 119th General Assembly. Rep. Olthoff was elected to represent House District 19, which includes portions of Lake County.
“I am excited by my new role as a state legislator and look forward to representing my community at the Statehouse,” said Rep. Olthoff. “I will do my best to create a better, stronger Northwest Indiana and ensure that the thoughts and viewpoints of my constituents are heard down in Indianapolis.”
As a part of Organization Day, Rep. Olthoff joined House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis), legislators, staff and other office holders in donating linens, gift cards and various supplies to the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV).
“Domestic violence affects so many people throughout our state,” said Laura Berry, Executive Director of ICADV. “We are happy to work with the House legislators on this issue and are proud to be the recipient of the Speaker’s charity initiative in 2015 which will support local domestic violence programs.”
ICADV is a statewide coalition that provides technical assistance, resources, information and training to domestic violence awareness programs, support agencies and concerned individuals. ICADV focuses on prevention of domestic abuse, legislative advocacy, public awareness, advocate training and legal assistance.
“Increasing awareness about domestic violence is the first step and imperative to addressing this issue for Hoosiers,” said Rep. Olthoff. “I am proud to support organizations like the ICADV and their efforts to help families and children impacted by domestic violence.”
